Communications coordinator for an architectural firm: 0-3 years of experience

David Baker Architects (DBA) is a progressive architecture firm that creates renowned buildings in urban environments. The company is a national leader in affordable housing and innovative sustainable design, and recently received the 2020 AIA California Firm Award.

We pursue projects that have the power to build, transform and reflect the character and strength of a community, and we focus on equity and social justice in our work practice and culture. Our 60-person firm works with offices in San Francisco, Oakland and Birmingham, Alabama.

DBA is looking for a Communications Coordinator to join our internal communications team. This position works closely with the Director of Communications, our PR consultant and corporate management in a range of areas related to marketing and communications. DBA supports hybrid/remote work in progress. This is a full-time position for a candidate ideally based in the San Francisco Bay Area who will be able to accommodate regular office visits and site visits.

Responsibilities:

Social media management

  • Own and develop DBA’s social media content publishing schedule

  • Organize social media campaigns to convey the mission, message and work of the DBA

  • Create all social content (text, image and video), including editing, approving and scheduling posts for all platforms

  • Create timely formatted weekly documents for staff to share with contacts

Website management and content creation

  • Website: manage, update and maintain dynamic website content (via CMS)

  • Blog: Help develop and maintain internal blog calendar and production (coordination, writing, editing, publishing)

  • Newsletter: Produce a monthly digital newsletter

Marketing and management material

  • Participate in the development of proposals and price submissions

  • Maintain and manage marketing materials (project fact sheets, CVs, qualifications)

  • Coordinate media relations directly and with the company’s PR consultant (develop project press kits, respond to media inquiries)

  • Track and support upcoming firm events and staff engagements (panels, etc.)

Media projects

  • Provide targeted and organized support for upcoming projects: website migration, book launch

  • Video production/editing as required, participation in photo shoots, preparation of presentations and interviews

marketing resource

  • Support the Director of Communications and the Communications team and act as a resource to staff for marketing-specific tasks and information

  • Co-produce weekly communication meetings (develop and maintain the agenda)

Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication

  • Reporting, editing and proofreading skills

  • Good eye, ease with smartphone photography and video

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and a strong proactive attitude – curiosity and willingness to figure things out and take the first step

  • Mastery of social media platforms, interest in analysis and management tools

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, or interest and ability to learn

  • Experience in website management (CMS), or interest and ability to learn (Drupal a plus)

  • Interest in housing, community, social justice and design issues

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, English or a related field

  • Relevant professional experience in marketing (an asset)

  • Experience in the A/E/C industry (an asset)
