Johnnie Walker Experience has been hired to fit out Edinburgh’s iconic ‘ribbon’ hotel

The firm will help fit out the interiors of the 244-bedroom 12-storey W Edinburgh, the iconic and highly distinctive hotel that forms part of the capital’s £1billion St James development.
Keppie Design was appointed delivery architect by BAM, who also worked on the fit-up of the Johnnie Walker Experience on Princes Street in the capital.
The hotel will offer 244 rooms, including 42 suites and an “Extreme Wow Suite” – the W brand’s interpretation of the Presidential Suite.
Jim Ward, Regional Director of BAM Construction Scotland, said: “This is a prestigious, remarkable and high quality development for Scotland. BAM’s work on the Johnnie Walker Experience and V&A Dundee show that we have the pedigree and credentials to deliver such ambitious programs.
“During the pre-construction period, our team implemented our usual collaborative approach to help reduce risk and develop the design while building a strong relationship with our partners. It will be as exciting to build as it will be to stay here when we will have finished our work.
The 1.7 million square foot downtown development by Nuveen Real Estate brings together 80 brands, including John Lewis, Zara, Lego and Boss. There are also several catering offerings, an Everyman cinema, a 75-bed aparthotel and dozens of apartments within the project.
Edward Webb, Director of Development Management at Nuveen Real Estate, added: “The W Edinburgh will redefine the city’s hospitality scene.
