This is Vivo’s first-ever participation in testing 5G autonomous commercial networks in overseas markets outside of China. The collaboration with AIS will accelerate the deployment of the 5G SA commercial network in Thailand and bring enhanced 5G broadband experiences to local mobile users.
“As a key contributor to 5G standards around the world, we are pleased that Vivo users in Thailand can now enjoy this next-generation broadband connectivity,” said Tamrakar Rakesh, 5G standards expert at Vivo.
A Vivo V21 5G smartphone was used for rigorous field tests that took place in urban areas of Bangkok, where it achieved outstanding results achieving impressive connectivity speed. Users can now enjoy stable 5G connectivity directly with Vivo V21 5G devices, without any OTA upgrades.
Vivo aims to empower consumers by giving them access to 5G connectivity at all prices. To achieve this feat, Vivo has invested heavily in R&D, resulting in cutting-edge patented discoveries such as 5G multi-sim and power saving technology.
The company will also continue to liaise with market operators in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan to conduct further 5G SA tests in 2021, it said in a statement.
